The winners of the 2008 Arts & Letters Prizes will be brought to the GCSU campus in Milledgeville, Georgia (expenses paid) to receive their prizes and participate in programs featuring their work.

 

The winners of the Drama prize and the Creative Nonfiction/Susan Atefat prize will visit the campus on March 13 and 14, 2009

The 2009 Arts & Letters Prizes postmark deadline will be Monday, March 16, 2009.

 

The Arts & Letters Prizes in Poetry and Creative Nonfiction are named in honor of Susan Atefat-Peckham and her son Cyrus Atefat-Peckham, who died tragically in a car accident near Amman, Jordan. These prizes are made possible by gifts to Arts & Letters, including a generous gift from Susan’s parents, Bahram and Fari Atefat. Our current issue, Arts & Letters #19, features an interview with poet X. J. Kennedy. The issue also includes poetry by Kenneth Hart, Campbell McGrath, Keith Ratlaff and others; essays by Jeff P. Jones, Heather Sellers and others; fiction by Lauren Cobb and Joan Connor; and the 2007 Arts & Letters Prize for Drama (Glenn Alterman selected by Michael Wright), and the 2007 Arts & Letters/Susan Atefat Prize for Creative Nonfiction (Julie Wan selected by Jeannette Walls), and the World Poetry Translation Series featuring Dag Straumsvag as translated by Robert Hedin.

New Name for the Arts & Letters Poetry Prize

The editors announce the Arts & Letters/Rumi Prize in Poetry, named for the great Persian poet in honor of the late Susan Atefat-Peckham.

 

Arts & Letters Creative Nonfiction Prize

Once again, the Art & Letters/Susan Atefat prize in Creative Nonfiction, endowed by Susan’s parents, will be looking for submissions. This prize has been named after our late friend and colleague Susan Atefat-Peckham, former poetry editor and professor in the GCSU MFA program.

 

Learn more about Susan’s life and work, as well as her contributions to Arts & Letters and our MFA program.

 

Our prizes are made possible by generous gifts to the Arts & Letters Endowment administered by the GCSU Foundation.
